This exhibition was made possible through the support of collectors, curators, and institutions from three continents, all coming together to pay tribute to a cultural icon who has left a lasting impact on past, present, and future generations—a visionary artist born in Venezuela. In an interview, Jesús Rafael Soto expressed his belief that art should contribute to the betterment of society. MOLAA shares his inspiring vision of using art as a means to educate and uplift communities.
With great honor, we present this extraordinary tribute to Soto, showcasing the depth of his convictions. We were privileged to receive his guidance and contributions in curating this exhibition. In a conversation with Soto in mid-December 2004, shortly before his passing, he shared his desire for California to be a place where his work could be truly experienced.
"Jesús Soto: The Universality of the Immaterial" stands as one of the most ambitious projects MOLAA undertook during its period of physical and intellectual expansion in the early 2000s.
This exhibition catalog features essays by:
Gregorio Luke, Idurre Alonso, Sofía Imber, Kirsten Hammer Duek, Milagros Bello, Ph.D., Bélgica Rodríguez, Claude-Louis Renard, and Mariavelia Savino.
